OAE's are tested by inserting a small probe into the patient's ear. The probe delivers a stimulus and measures the soft sounds produced by the cochlea. This test is automated and does not require active participation from the patient, with results available immediately after the procedure

A "PASS" result on the ERO SCAN indicates that OAEs were detected, signifying a normal functioning cochlea. However, a "REFER" result means no measurable response was obtained, which may suggest potential hearing loss and possible communication challenges. In such cases, further diagnostic evaluation of the patient's hearing is recommended
